SPX next weekend!

This is a bit of a repeat post from a2alien, but with a slightly different slant. You see, I may create comics but mostly I’m an admirer of comics. I’m super excited, therefore that Bill Roundy is going to be at SPX this year as well as Meredith Gran of Octopus Pie.

Last year I think I may have been a bit overenthusiastic about Bill Roundy. Hint: do NOT run up to an artist screaming OMG OMG  OMG I love you and I’m so glad you’re here!!!!! … especially not while wearing a slightly maniacal grin, drooling, and looking wide eyed enough to cross over into “crazy eyes” territory. It tends to make people nervous. Expressing enthusiasm at their work is always well received and should be done as much as possible. (At least, I know I like to hear when people actually like what I do. They say you should create for yourself b/c you like to create, not for praise, but let’s be honest .. hearing someone gush about something you created is pretty darn awesome!)

Anyway, I was lucky enough to stumble upon Bill Roundy’s comics at the first SPX I attended back in .. um, ok – I have no idea what year .. but let’s just say it was a while ago. I’ve been collecting his comics since and am always happy to see a new one posted on his site. The comic gives readers a peek into Bill’s life and shows the funny side of pretty much any situation one can imagine. It also deludes the audience into thinking they might just be on a first name basis with the creator.

I’m really not sure at all how I found Octopus Pie. I have to be honest, I was completely confused at first and not really sure what was going on in the first several strips that I read, but there was something.. you know, that indescribable something that made me want to keep reading. The characters have revealed themselves slowly, like new friends. The update schedule has recently changed, but I’m a huge fan of RSS so it is like a treat to see new episodes show up in my feed reader.

I’m also pretty excited to see Hey Pais. It’s a journal comic by a kittie!! And, we all know how much I love the kitties. MMMM .. tasty tasty kitty .. I mean, uh.. sweet, fluffy kitties .. who don’t attack for no reason .. yes, I’m looking at YOU BennieWennie. Anyway, I hear there will be new Hey Pais comics and new buttons! I love buttons.

SPX :: here and gone!

Well, SPX has come and gone. It was a lot of fun and I met so many great artists! Having the support of some great friends helped a LOT as well. Special thanks to Norb and Robert who split the table with me.

Also, thanks to Bill’s friend (whose name I can’t remember – someone help me here!) who suggested balloons or something to lure people to our table in the corner (aka Siberia). That suggestion led to the big red arrow which actually pulled in some traffic on day two. woo hoo!
