Children of Mtaya is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “support education for orphans and vulnerable children living in extreme poverty and assisting adults in developing small businesses to work toward economic independence.” I was originally asked by the founder to help them reestablish their web site. When working to reestablish their site, it was determined that they did not have an effective logo. We discussed how their most basic goal was first to help children to read and how their contributions allowed a brick school house to be built. The brick was hand made by the people of Mtaya and has a very special significance to the organization.
I worked with the previous web site administrator to transfer their web site to a new host. Because they planned to have several volunteers update the site content, I chose WordPress as their CMS. Due to the quick turn around time, I chose to utilize a free theme to get their site back up and running as quickly as possible.
For the logo, I knew the brick of the schoolhouse needed to be incorporated. They wanted something simple, but I felt the logo also needed to address the educational aspect of their efforts as well. In the end, I created two students reading and used the brick as an accent.
